Strike this is not all that surprising: Jason Frasor has been named the closer of the Blue Jays. There has been some speculation that Scott Downs or Kevin Gregg would take over duties or at least form the scariest three-headed closing hydra ever. But, alas, Cito Gaston has shown some intelligence and picked his best reliever (whether he should be used only in closing situations is a matter of another debate).
So, what can we expect from Jason Frasor? How about a 3.70 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP and 50+ Ks. He should be good for around 30 saves this year as well. That clearly vaults him into the company of Ryan Franklin, Chad Qualls and Matt Capps when it comes to closers. This means he should be selected around the 20th round in standard leagues.
FB101’s 411: If you’ve already snagged Jason Frasor, congrats. If you haven’t, you should.

I have a weak trio of closers in Aardsma, Capps, and Chris Perez in one of my leagues. Would you drop any of them to pick up Frasor?

I’d drop Chris Perez. Perez is really only closing until Wood gets healthy. Sure, there is a chance he is lights out and the Indians are competing. But i dont see that as likely. What is more likely is the Indians try to get some of their investment in Wood back. The hope would be that he pitches well in high leverage situations and they can trade him or get a decent compensatory pick in the off-season.
Plus Cito seems to love Jason Frasor, so I give Frasor a bit more stability.
